🌊 Greetings from the Seawheat Conference in Bremerhaven! 🇩🇪

We were pleased to take part in a three-day event dedicated to algae research and innovation, bringing together leading experts for insightful presentations and discussions. A special focus was placed on Ulva, underlining its growing importance in Europe and the potential it holds for new scientific and business collaborations.

Martins, representing the projects I3-4-SEAWEED and AlgaeProBANOS, shared updates on ongoing work to support aspiring algae entrepreneurs and blue biotech innovators. His presentation highlighted the opportunities offered through the I3-4-SEAWEED Open Call and the AlgaeProBANOS Open Call & Accelerator Programme.

A central question discussed throughout the sessions was:
How feasible is the EU’s 2030 seaweed target, given current technologies and market dynamics?

While some believe scaling is achievable once a strong market develops, others emphasize the need for breakthroughs in cultivation, processing, and policy support.

This exchange of perspectives reflects both the opportunities and challenges ahead—and highlights the importance of continued collaboration between science, industry, and policymakers in shaping Europe’s seaweed future.
